Adobe Reader/Viewer
- Why won't the Acrobat Reader open a
pdf document in a Pocket Module?
Check to make sure you have version
4.0
or later of the Adobe Acrobat® Reader.
- When I click or double click on a
Pocket Reader pdf
document, it opens the Internet Explorer instead of the Acrobat Reader.
The Windows OS has not associated the
Adobe Acrobat Reader as the program to open a pdf-type file. This is either because you
have not installed the Reader on your computer or somehow the Windows/NT Explorer is
associating .pdf files with Internet Explorer (IE). Check under the Start-Programs Menu for an Adobe
folder and the Acrobat Reader.
If the
Adobe Reader is already installed on your computer, just associate it
with .pdf files in the Windows Explorer. Open the Windows Explorer and
under the View menu, select the Options choice at the bottom. In the Options window, click
the File Types tab and scroll down and find the /pdf type. Click on it to see the
associated program. Use the Edit button to associate
the Reader with pdf files.
If you do not have the Acrobat Reader installed, it should show that Internet Explorer
is associated with .pdf files. Just download Acrobat Reader for free from the Adobe website and install it. When
The Acrobat Reader is installed, it will
automatically set the associated program to Acrobat Reader for .pdf files.

Copying
- Can I copy PhraseCards
on a copier?
Sure. The number of copies you can make
and, who you can make them for, depends on your license. If it is a personal license,
you can print out a reasonable number of copies for yourself, your family and friends.
Reasonable means less than 25 copies. If you have a site license, or enterprise or government subscription,
see your license agreement for details or contact customer Service.
If you are in doubt or have a special
situation, call us at 770-472-0767 or send an email to Sales using our
Feedback form.
If you call with
a copying question, we are not going to ask who you are unless you decide you want to get
permission to make more copies and after you have heard the terms. Not everything is
going to cost you money!
- Can I
just copy a Pocket Module folder to another computer or drive?
No. Pocket Modules are applications.
You must use the Pocket Module (PM) Installer for the specific PM you
licensed to install it on another drive or computer. Personal licenses
allow you to install a Pocket Module on up to three of your computers
in any combination of laptops and desktops.

Natural Phonetics
- International Phonetics Alphabet. Why
don't you just use the International Phonetics Alphabet to show sounds instead of finding
English words to match the sounds?
We want to make it easy on people. The IPA is designed
to show sounds in a standard format. But you have to learn the code to do this. For people
who just want to learn a few words in another language, it makes the learning process much more difficult. Most of us are not linguists and find learning the code more
bother than it is worth!
- Phonetics. Your phonetics don't always work for
me. Why?
First, maybe we didn't pick the best way
to show the sound. We work with native speakers and test the phonetics with ordinary
people, but sometimes we still don't get it right.
Second, maybe you are not pronouncing the phonetic correctly. Many people when they
see the word "phonetic", think they have to somehow change the sound from
what the word represents. Remember, our Natural Phonetics are just that -natural!
If it looks like an English word, then just say it like an American
whose primary language is English, would say the word. Don't try to turn
the phonetic word into a "phonetic" sound.
For example, if you see the single letter "A",
it is pronounced "A' and not "ah". (Our phonetics will not always work for
British or Australian English and may not work for Americans where
English is their second language.
Third, you may be in a place where they are speaking a dialect. The
best thing to do is to find a native speaker of the language who also speaks English and go over the phrases
with the person. If they don't like your pronunciation, write a new one down that works
for you. There is nothing perfect or sacred about any company's phonetics! We are
all just trying to do our best to help you.

PhraseCards
- ATM Symbol.
I've never seen your ATM symbol in an airport or anywhere else for that matter. Did you
just make it up?
Yes, we just made it up based on
human factors design principles. We did some research and tried to find one in actual use,
like in an airport terminal. We even sent emails to international organizations but they
never bothered to reply! Let us know if you run across one.
- Can
I copy PhraseCards?

Pocket Modules
- How soon before you add more Pocket Modules to your
collection?
We are adding at least one new Pocket Module
each month to
our collection. Companies, organizations and government agencies may download new
pocket modules as part of their subscription benefits.
- Copying Pocket Modules.
I copied my Pocket Module
folder to
another PC and it doesn't work. Why?
Pocket Modules are
applications and are linked to the Pocket Reader when they are
installed. See the Pocket Reader
Help for a complete
discussion.
- When I click or double click on a Pocket Reader
pdf
document, it opens the Internet Explorer instead of the Acrobat Reader.
See the explanation under Adobe
Reader/Viewer above.
-
I'm not sure what versions of the Windows Media Player,
Internet Explorer, or Adobe Reader that I have on my computer.
Chances are you
have everything you need. If you are not sure, go ahead and install the
Pocket Reader and the Pocket Module you bought via download or CD-ROM.
Then, if things don't work, you can determine from any error messages
what software is missing or that you need to upgrade. remember,
the Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer and Adobe Reader are free
software you can download from their respective companies.
- What is the default location where the Pocket Reader and
my Pocket Modules are installed.
The default path is
Start/Programs/Travel Science. Use
this path and select the Pocket Reader. When the Pocket Reader opens,
select a Pocket Module and then either double-click on the Language
Module to open it with the Language Player or double-click on the
PhraseCard to open it with Adobe Reader.

Subscriptions
- What
are subscriptions?
Subscriptions are a way for a company,
government agencies, and other organizations to allow their personnel
to be able to quickly learn a little of another language by purchasing
a site license or a subscription. These also cover distribution
on laptops and networks. Subscriptions are on an annual
basis. Another benefit of subscriptions is that you have access
to new Pocket Modules as they become available throughout the
year. We have special subscriptions for travel companies, such
as airline clubs and travel agencies, to allow them to offer the
convenience of Pocket Modules to their customers.
- What happens if we don't want to renew our subscription?
Then you must remove all Pocket Modules
licensed under the terms of the subscription from all computers. Any PhraseCards you have previously printed for
your employees or customers under the terms of the license may still be used.
