Reading left to write, the buttons are as follows:

Language Overview and Products.

• Overview. Clicking the book icon or Overview will normally take you to the Yamada Language Center (YLC) page for this language.  They have extensive and excellent links covering this language as well as links to countries where the language is spoken.  (YLC is located at the University of Oregon in the U.S.A.) 
    
  They list the product categories for which they have at least one item.  The number in ( ) following the category name is the number of items they have for that category. Scroll down to read a good article about the language.

• Products. Clicking Products will take you to the World Language Resources (WLR) homepage. This company has the most extensive catalog of world language products that we have found on the web. They also have a nice overview of each language. Click on Language at the top of their home page to go to their Language Selection page.  If WLR does not have products for this language, we will try to take you to another website that does.
   
• Red background. If we have not found a website for this language, the button background will be red and no link will exist.

Chat Room.

• Clicking the Chat Room icon or 1-Chat will take you to a Chat Room where you can communicate in this language.
  
• Clicking 2-List will take you to a site that lists chat rooms for this language or to a 2nd chat room. If we can't find a list of chat rooms that includes the language, we will try to find a list of chat rooms that use English for a major country where this language is spoken.

Red background. If we have not found a Chat Room website for this language, the button background will be red and no link will exist.

Audio/Video.

• Clicking the microphone icon will take you to a sample audio/video or radio/TV site for the language if one is available. We will normally try to find a site in the capital or main city, town or village of the place where this language is most widely spoken.  The microphone icon is not clickable, and the background will be red, if there are no audio/video or radio/TV sites for the Language.  You will need either the RealPlayer, Windows Media Player or Yahoo! Player to listen to the audio.  They all have free versions you can download. 
   
• Clicking 1-Station will take you to the home page for the web site that we have used with the microphone as a sample of the language. The site's home page may have other audio and video choices to see or listen to.
   
• Clicking 2-List will take you to the NBCi search results page for this language. It will list links to sites that have audio and video in this language. 

Red background. If we have not found a website for this language, the microphone background will be red and no link will exist.

On-Line Lessons

• Clicking the Microphone icon will take you to an on-line lesson for this language that includes audio.
   
  Red background. If we did not find a website that offers an on-line lesson for this language that includes audio, the microphone background will be red and no link will exist.
   
• Clicking 1-Site will take you to the same website the Microphone is linked to for on-line lesson if there is an audio site.  If not, then this is a link to another site that has text-only lessons. If the 1-Site name is shown in red, we did not find a site and there is no link.

• Clicking 2-List will take you to a website that has a list of on-line lesson sites for this language, either text only, or text and audio. If the 2-List name is shown in red, we did not find a site and there is no link.

	On-Line Translators
First we try to find a free on-line translator, then a commercial product, and if we can't find either of those, we then see if World Language Resources has translators for this language.  If not we will either show a search result list for translators for this language or direct you to a human translation service website.

• Clicking the Translator icon or 1-Translator or 2-Translator with a pink background will take you free on-line translator websites that translate from English to this language. They may also translate in the other direction as well.
   
• If the Translator icon has a red background or 1-Translator is in red, it indicates we did not find any free or commercial on-line machine or human translation websites that translate this language.  In this case, no link will exist.

News

• Clicking the News icon will take you to an on-line news source in this language, if any.  If the news is in a language that requires a special type font, it may not display correctly. If this is the case, and you have Internet Explorer, under the View Menu, select Encoding and then see if you have Auto-Select checked. This may allow you to display the page properly. If you have Auto-Select checked and it is still not being displayed properly, scroll down the list of languages to the bottom and select More...  Then, choose the proper language from the list.
  
• Clicking News will take you to the Internet Press region of the world page where a country speaking this language will be listed or to the specific country. (See the Place information at the top of our language page for the country or countries where this language is spoken.) Once there, scroll down to find the country. You will then be shown a list of online newspapers and other news sources, some of which will usually be in this language.
   
  Red background. If we did not find an on-line website with news in this language, the News icon background will be red and no link will exist.

Where Spoken

• Clicking the Information or Where Spoken icon will open the Ethnologue page for this language at the Summer Institute of Linguistics website. They list all the places where the languages is spoken and the number of speakers in each place.

On-Line Dictionary

• Clicking the Dictionary icon or ENG>L2 will take you to an on-line dictionary for this language.   It will allow you to translate from English to the other language. (L2 is the second language which is shown as a 3-letter designator (e.g. ENG > FRN for English to French).  A bi-directional dictionary is indicated by ENG<>L2.  If ENG>L2 is in red, that means that we have not found any on-line dictionary in that direction.
   
• Clicking L2>ENG will take you to a dictionary where you can type in a word in the second language (or sometimes phrases) and be shown the equivalent word (or phrase) in English.  L2 is the second language which is shown as a 3-letter designator (e.g. FRN > ENG for French to English). If it is another bi-directional dictionary, this is indicated by ENG<>L2. L2>ENG in red means that we have not found any on-line dictionary in that direction.
  
  Yellow Background. If we did not find an on-line dictionary, but we found a source for mail-order dictionaries for this language, the Dictionary icon background will be yellow and a link will be provided to a website where you can buy it.
    
  Red background. If we did not find an on-line dictionary, the Dictionary icon background will be red and no link will exist.

Toolbar Help

• Clicking the Toolbar Help icon will open the Language Toolbar Help in a separate window.  You can minimize it and refer to it when needed.
  
• Clicking Help will open the Language Toolbar Help in the main frame of this language page.  Click your Back browser button to return to the language.
